Volunteering goalsTeletón's Volunteering has set the following goals:
To promote and sustain the organized participation of young and adult volunteers, committing to children and their families in a responsible manner and taking into account the mission, vision, values and policies of the Teletón Foundation Uruguay.
To promote the social inclusion of children and teenagers with disabilities, offeringquality human support to the children and their families.
To make daily contributions to the rehabilitation of children and teenagers through responsible and constant volunteering work, supporting the technical team of each Center in its area.
To strengthen the search for autonomy and independence for the children and teenagers in the Center through the integration to social networks.
To train social agents (volunteers) who will be able to intervene voluntarilyin order to contribute in the search for social equity.
To be national social models with professional and organized volunteering specialized in working with disabilities.
The roles are varied and also specific in each of the attention units in the Center.They range from welcoming children and their parents and indicating where they should go on their first visit,to assisting specialized doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other technicians in their field.
Each volunteer group has a coordinator (also a volunteer) who works in that group’s shift.
RequirementsTo be over 18 years old.Service Volunteering
To be available to work a shift of 4 hours and a half, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., or from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. once a week in Montevideo’s Teletón Center. In Fray Bentos’ Teletón Center, the shifts are from 8:00 am to 11:00 a.m. and from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Both Teletón Centers work from Mondays to Fridays.
Not to be a Teletón patient at the time of the application.
To have a service vocation and to assume it with commitment and responsibility.
Campaign Volunteering
To be available on Saturdays and Sundays in order to take part in the Center’s diffusion activities.
Being a student or a professionalin any field that is related to the work in the Center is not a requirement to become a volunteer.The areas which the volunteer can take part in are varied and are distributed by the shift’s coordinator.Training:The selected volunteers must attend an introductory workshop and training course assigned by their coordinator. Several specific training workshops about volunteering and operation of the Centre will be held in the course of the year, as well as integration and recreation days.This training will give the volunteers the specific tools they will need in order to carry out their tasks.
